How do I get HEIC files off my iPhone?
Connect via cable: open Photos on your iPhone → select photos → Share → Save to Files → AirDrop or save to a cloud folder. Or use iCloud Photos and download from icloud.com. The original HEIC is preserved unless you've changed your iPhone setting to "Automatic" transfer which converts to JPG on transfer.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser using WebAssembly (for HEIC decoding) and the Canvas API. Open the Network tab while converting — you'll see zero image uploads. Photos stay on your device.

What is HEIC and why convert it?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It's about half the size of JPG at the same quality. The downside: limited support outside Apple's ecosystem. Converting to JPG or PNG makes the photo usable everywhere.
Will I lose quality when converting?
Converting to PNG is lossless — no quality loss at all. Converting to JPG, WebP, or AVIF is lossy, but at the default quality 92 the difference is imperceptible. For maximum quality use PNG or set the slider to 100.
Can I bulk convert hundreds of images?
Yes, no hard limit. The practical ceiling depends on your device. On a desktop, batches of 200+ HEIC files convert comfortably. On a phone, expect smaller batches (50-100) for high-resolution HEIC photos.
Why can't I output to HEIC?
HEIC encoding (creating HEIC files) requires patented codecs that browsers don't include. You can read HEIC files, but creating new ones requires native iOS/macOS apps. Use JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF as your output format.
